In June 2002 the Australian Banana Growers' Council brought together key industry people from around Australia to a workshop in Brisbane. The aim was to identify the key issues facing the industry over the next three to five years and identify how the industry and its organisation should respond.
The result is the Banana Industy's National Strategic Plan incorporating the National R&D Plan.
The Strategic Plan lays out where the industry will be directing its efforts over the next three to five years and in many cases indicates who will be directly responsible for paticular issues and the time frame for having them completed.
The National Research and Development Plan is a natural extension of the National Strategic Plan and identifies the gaps in our knowledge base that may hinder us from achieving strategic objectives. The research and Development Plan is essential reading for those organisations that seek to make applciation to the banana industry for funding of research projects.
